This one shows the platform that Matilda and I made a couple of weeks ago. The rope’s been there from the tree house for some time, its just that there’s not been any landing area when you make it up the rope. We have some vague plans to go higher… with another level. The good thing about these platforms is that you only have to tie them on… no screws or nails required, so its easy to take them down… and it’s easy to go up several levels… as long as you add hand railings. Chelsea is the one in the blue shirt.
This big pig was trying to get Matilda to feed her some more seeds. Matilda seemed oblivious to the size and power of it. She was more interested in the guinea pigs in the enclosure she was standing in
Phoebe got a real kick out of these little chicks...
...and this littel fella was really freindly. It was almost as if it understood what you were saying...!
The feet sticking out of the pouch are attached to the little head. Poor thing must have some padding to withstand the action that follows....
Last weekend I took the girls camping on Straddy whilst Daile went to a service for her late Nanna in NZ. A very tiring trip for her cos her new work committments meant that she couldn't even get the whole weekend in.
As soon as we found a place we liked off Flinders beach, Matilda went into 'Bear Grills' mode and started to cobble up a stick and palm leaf shelter. I didn't get a pick of it later when it had the leaves on, but it was pretty impressive!
After supper, we went to hang out on the beach near the waves. Had to be a bit careful as there are tiny little 'blue bottle' jelly fish there. They each had a light, and this is what we got...
The next morning it was lovely. I got up to take some pics about 6am. It's pretty difficult to sleep past that cos of the birds singing! Phoebe followed me out of the tent.
We noticed that the sand crabs had been busy during the night...
Then we went back to have croissants from my camp oven. Always a good reaction to those!
Check out the number of mossies that perished on the blindingly efficient petrol lamp. Despite the air being thick with them, it was only Phoebe that got eaten at all, and even then only from one that had been in the tent during the night. Night 2 - I sprayed the inside of it more thoroughly.
The girls seemed to LOVE travelling in the back of the truck... which I let them do whilst we were on the beach.
Number plate nearly came off going through a deep water flow getting off the beach at the end.
Driving through the surf is a lot of fun... if a little risky. Occasionally you hit very soft sand, and getting caught there would be curtains for the truck on a rising tide!

This poor roo had been hit and gone stiff....
We caught a few small fish - that we had to throw back. This is a dolphin that was hanging around the jetty, and which kept trying to nick the fish off people's hooks!
Matilda wanted to build a fire, so we cleared the vegetation around the fire, and did just that. (Bear Grills influence again). At first I was less than enthusiastic, thinking about the risk of bush fire. However it was pretty damp from the rain the night before, so we did it. It was great!
And the egg box went soggy in the freezer box. Normally I make the egg cups from the box. This time we had to improvise more... and made them from card and tea bags!
Back down the beach to find a lagoon typa thing. Great for the kids... no rip tides!
