The things we do for our kids....

I mentioned a few weeks (ok months) ago that the girls had won the national junior robotics championships run by an organisation called RoboCup Junior.  It's not big stuff..it's just a bunch of little robots that are about the size of a small bag of spuds, rolling around a 'dance floor' and interacting with each other, or the clock, or some sensors.  But you know, we were all chuffed and because the win incorporates the word 'robotics', the girls have been picking up a fair bit of kudos at school... neither of them being even slightly nerdy.

There has been a little bit of over inflation of their self view, but not much all things considered.  There's been a surprising lack in fact, of any kind of sense of pressure....the kind of pressure that might induce them to work a bit harder in polishing their game for the next round...which is in Brazil....in a few days.

I write this from the lobby of a hotel in Iguazu Falls called Florenca, at about 3am cos I can't sleep.  Here's a pic of the falls.

Tomorrow we go to the falls, and work a bit on the robots, which are still unfinished!  (Yes I KNOW! - honestly, it's like kicking spaghetti up the stairs!)

For the last two days we've been in a very low end hotel in Lima, Peru.  Peru is a ramshackle place I'll tell you!  Lovely people, crazy drivers!  There's a 'park' we found that is full of cats...I mean hundreds of cats!  We cam across it at night, and went back the next day.  It seems to attract American women, of whom I saw several, surrounded by cats.  People bring their cats here when they've had enough it would seem.

I can't imagine anything like that being allowed in Australia...on health grounds or something.  Yet they all seem in good condition.

Going to try to sleep now.
